Lee, VP Portfolio Manager of Peapack-Gladstone Bank will speak on a general historical perspective about the 2007-2009 financial crisis and its effect on our local economy and banking.  He will also provide a potential look forward for our local economy and banking across Morris, Essex, and Bergen counties.  The presentation should include relevant information about local economic and financial impacts (on credit, employment, housing, and more), the TARP, and bank regulation.  Because of Peapack-Gladstone Bank's experiences, John should have an interesting story to tell about the recent crisis.
        John Lee is Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at PGB Trust & Investments, the Trust division of the Peapack-Gladstone Bank. He has over 25 years experience in the investment business. John came to PGB Trust & Investments in 2005 and manages portfolios for high net worth clients, foundations, retirement accounts.
        Prior to joining Peapack-Gladstone Bank, John worked for The Bank of New York.  Also he was Manager of the Compass Capital Growth Fund at Midlantic Bank. His early career was with First Fidelity Bank, National Community Bank and the well known Drexel Burnham Lambert.   John has been quoted numerous times in Barrons and Wall Street Journal.  He has an in depth understanding of the U.S. and Global markets.

kanan.jpg (8033 bytes)Wednesday, October 21, 2009A. Rief Kanan of SUNY New Paltz will lead discussions on Ethics Cases and Concepts, providing  2 CPEs.  Discussions will explore cases around the following seven topics, time permitting:
    o    corporate criminal responsibility
    o    sure signs of ethical leadership
    o    reasons for unethical behavior
    o    remedial ethics
    o    trust and a moral compass
    o    institutional storytelling
                                 o     professional codes of conduct
           A. Rief Kanan, MS, CPA, CFF, CFFA is a professor on the accounting faculty of the School of Business at The State University of New York at New Paltz, where he founded and is Director of The Business Institute and has held a Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellowship since 2003.   He is also the principal author of the college’s 150-hour CPA licensure qualifying program leading to the MBA degree.  His over thirty years of experience includes public accounting, corporate auditing and accounting, corporate management and entrepreneurial activities in real estate and retail businesses.  Professor Kanan has been teaching at the bachelor degree and MBA levels since 1983, in addition to his business activities.  Courses he teaches include financial, intermediate and advanced accounting as well as auditing at the undergraduate level and advanced auditing and cases in strategic management at the MBA level.   Since becoming a “full-time” college professor in 1997, he has maintained his entrepreneurial edge by assembling three “think tanks” of twelve to sixteen CEOs and company presidents each to work on the strategies and operations of their businesses under the international organization Vistage International.  As Director of The Business Institute, he administers or delivers consulting services to small and mid-sized companies including executive coaching, training programs, company planning meetings, marketing research, operations management, organizational development and organizational behavior and web-based services consulting.

        Prof. Kanan is a member of the Executive Board and former officer as well as the chairman of the Relations with Colleges and Universities Committee of the Mid-Hudson Chapter of the NY State Society of CPAs.  He has served as a member of the Arbitration and Mediation and Auditing Standards and Procedures Committees of the Society.  He is a past member of the Professional Ethics and the Accounting Standards Committees.  He is also a member and campus champion of the American Institute of CPAs.  Prof. Kanan now serves on the Advisory Committee to the Ulster County Comptroller.

        Prof. Kanan, his wife Nancy and their four sons live in the Hudson Valley and are great advocates of the many wonderful attributes of New York State

Wednesday, November 18, 2009.  David R. Huber, Vice President of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will speak on Healthcare Reform Impact.   Dave plans to discuss the following topics: 
  • Objectives of healthcare reform
    • Senate and house committees
    • Key provisions of various proposals
    • Cost and funding sources
    • Health plans under attack
    • Impact on employers

        In his role as Vice President - Financial Planning and Analysis of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey,  Dave Huber is responsible for forecasting, budgeting, enterprise risk management and supplier management.  He is also actively involved in Horizon’s process redesign efforts.   Mr. Huber joined Horizon BCBSNJ in June of 2002.
        Prior to joining Horizon, Mr. Huber was a Partner at Arthur Andersen LLP, where he served insurance clients.
        Mr. Huber is a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey and New York.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA).  Mr. Huber is actively involved in Financial Executives International and sits on the board of the New Jersey Chapter.  Dave holds a BS degree in Accounting from Lehigh University.

dawn_little.jpg (8719 bytes)Wednesday, December 16, 2009.  Dawn Little, CPA, a Holistic Business Strategist, will speak on Creative Ways to Generate Profits by contributing across the breadth of an enterprise.  She will discuss how to go beyond the role of  a traditional accountant.

        Dawn Little is a business building, profit driving suite of contradictions - and proud of it.  Within large companies and the big four she has broken the mold by transforming the traditional accountant 'bean counter' mentality into a vital and successful business strategist role with a flexible, hands-on, 'special projects' orientation.  She sees the enterprise as more than the sum of its parts and will discuss how this can be best realized.

        Dawn is currently an adjunct professor of accounting at Passaic County Community College.  Her past experience includes senior  management positions in several pharmaceutical companies after working for PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM.  She earned an MBA from Pace University.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010.  Jeff Benney, the CEO of the Survivor II window company will lead us on a tour of his plant in Elizabeth, NJ.  Survivor Windows II makes windows and doors for the home.  It incorporated in March 2009, having bought the assets of Survivor Technologies from its bankruptcy.  It is located at 919 Fairmount Avenue in Elizabeth, NJ.

wpe9.jpg (2821 bytes)Wednesday, February 17, 2010.  Mark Bobber, VP at American Appraisal will speak on Physical Inventory Policies and Procedures - An Essential Internal Control for the Financial Reporting of Fixed Assets.

        Mark J. Bobber serves as the National Director for the Fixed Asset Inventory & Reconciliation Services Group of American Appraisal.  In this position, Mr. Bobber assists manufacturers, telecommunications companies, universities, healthcare systems and governments in developing accurate fixed asset records to satisfy accounting, auditing, financial reporting, grant reporting, property management, insurance, and internal planning.   He also is an expert in market value studies.  Mr. Bobber supervises and assists client staff with on-site inventories of movable equipment and assists the staff with technical issues.  He is also involved with computerized reconciliations and converting reports for local software systems.

        Mr. Bobber joined American Appraisal in 1997, rising to Vice President in 2009.  Prior to joining American Appraisal, he was an insurance associate for AFLAC.  He has a bachelors degree in environmental planning from the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay.

        Rita Moniodes is a Career Coach with Right Management located in Princeton, N.J.  She works with candidates to create hard hitting, targeted resumes and offers support and direction as they learn the skills required to conduct a successful job search in today’s difficult market.  She has over 20 years experience as a leader of Training and Development initiatives focused on Management, Supervisory and Professional skill development.  In these roles, she created a reputation of establishing trust, as well as creating learning programs and processes that facilitated continuous learning and improved performance.

        She has worked in various industries including Health Insurance, Banking and Public Utilities.
